A new partnership between Paltech Africa and Hurudza AI is set to improve how farmers in Zimbabwe access critical agricultural information, with the launch of an AI-powered platform called “The Farmers’ Bench.” The initiative aims to bring real-time, practical farming support directly to communities, especially in rural areas where access to timely information remains limited.
Announced in Harare, the collaboration combines Paltech Africa’s smart, solar-powered infrastructure with Hurudza AI’s multilingual agricultural technology. Together, the two companies are building a unified system that delivers data-driven insights to farmers on the ground, helping them make better decisions and improve productivity.
The Farmers’ Bench is designed as both a physical and digital solution. It will act as an innovation hub where farmers can access localized farming advice, climate-smart recommendations and real-time support powered by artificial intelligence. By placing this technology within communities, the initiative removes barriers such as poor connectivity and limited access to extension services.
At its core, the project focuses on practical impact. Farmers will be able to receive information tailored to their environment, crops and language. This is expected to improve yields, reduce risks linked to climate change and support more sustainable farming practices across the country.
Bridging Technology and Rural Farming Needs
The partnership is structured under a Memorandum of Understanding, with each company playing a clear role in delivering the solution. Paltech Africa will provide the hardware backbone, including solar-powered systems and edge AI infrastructure. The company will also oversee installation, site selection and maintenance of the smart units deployed in farming communities.
Hurudza AI will power the software side, offering its conversational AI platform that delivers accurate, multilingual agricultural advice. The system will be continuously updated to ensure farmers receive relevant and timely information.
This integration of hardware and software is what makes the Farmers’ Bench different. Instead of relying on internet-heavy solutions, the platform works at the edge, meaning it can function effectively even in areas with limited connectivity. For many farmers, this could mark a shift from delayed or unavailable information to instant, reliable support.
Paltech Africa Team Lead Leonard Muyambo said the partnership is a step forward in making both artificial intelligence and sustainable energy accessible. He noted that embedding Hurudza AI’s capabilities into solar-powered infrastructure allows farmers to access knowledge directly where they work, without needing advanced devices or constant internet access.
Hurudza AI Co-founder and CEO Frank Makeba highlighted the importance of collaboration in building effective solutions. He pointed out that combining strengths in hardware and software not only improves the product but also strengthens investor confidence and creates opportunities for faster scaling across Zimbabwe.
Driving Agricultural Innovation and Economic Growth
Beyond improving access to information, the Farmers’ Bench has wider implications for Zimbabwe’s agricultural sector. By equipping farmers with better tools and knowledge, the initiative supports food security and strengthens the country’s farming systems.
The project also reflects a growing shift towards locally developed solutions. Both companies emphasize the importance of building technology within the African context, ensuring it responds to real challenges faced by local communities. This approach increases the chances of adoption and long-term success.
As the pilot phase begins, there are plans to expand the platform across provinces. If successful, the model could be replicated in other regions, positioning Zimbabwe as a leader in AI-driven agricultural innovation.
The partnership also signals a broader trend in the startup ecosystem, where collaboration is becoming key to growth. By working together, Paltech Africa and Hurudza AI are not only delivering a solution but also setting an example for how African startups can build scalable, impactful technologies.
In the long term, the Farmers’ Bench could change how farmers interact with technology. Instead of seeing AI as distant or complex, it becomes a practical tool that supports everyday decisions in the field.
