Jacaranda Maternity is set to expand its reach and improve maternal healthcare services in Kenya following a $600,000 investment from Swedfund. The funding is expected to increase access to affordable and quality care for women in low and middle income communities, while strengthening neonatal services and improving health outcomes for mothers and newborns.

The investment comes at a time when Kenya continues to face serious challenges in maternal and newborn health. While there has been progress in increasing the number of skilled births, mortality rates remain high. Public health facilities, which serve the majority of the population, often struggle with limited resources and overcrowding. This has created gaps in access to reliable and quality care, especially for vulnerable communities across different regions.

Jacaranda Maternity has positioned itself as a key player in addressing these gaps. The organisation focuses on providing high quality maternal healthcare at more affordable prices than traditional private hospitals. Its model is designed to serve women in underserved urban areas, particularly in Nairobi, offering a practical and sustainable option for essential maternity services.

The $600,000 investment from Swedfund will support Jacaranda Maternity’s expansion plans. A significant portion of the funding will go toward building new hospital facilities, allowing the organisation to reach more patients in different locations. At the same time, the investment will be used to upgrade existing facilities, including improvements in neonatal intensive care services. These upgrades are expected to enhance the quality of care and reduce risks for both mothers and newborns.

Swedfund has indicated that the investment aligns with its broader goal of supporting inclusive and sustainable development. By backing Jacaranda Maternity, the fund is contributing to the delivery of life saving healthcare services to more families. The partnership reflects a growing interest in strengthening healthcare systems in emerging markets through targeted private sector support.

Jacaranda Maternity has also outlined a clear strategy for long term growth. The organisation plans to expand its network to six hospitals, a scale that it believes will allow it to operate sustainably while maintaining affordability. This approach is aimed at building a healthcare model that can continue to serve communities without relying heavily on external support over time.

Beyond expanding services, Jacaranda Maternity is also focused on social impact. The organisation plays an active role in promoting women’s health and empowerment. Women make up 71 percent of its workforce, reflecting a strong commitment to gender inclusion within its operations. In addition, the organisation follows structured environmental and social management practices, positioning itself as a responsible and forward looking healthcare provider.

The partnership between Swedfund and Jacaranda Maternity highlights the role that targeted investment can play in addressing critical healthcare challenges. By expanding access to affordable maternal care and strengthening health systems, the initiative is expected to deliver measurable improvements in the well being of mothers and newborns in Kenya.
