The 2025 Sustainable Access Foundation (SAF) Africa Accelerator has once again proven the power of purpose-driven entrepreneurship in building a more inclusive and sustainable Africa. Over the past 12 weeks, participants engaged in collaboration, mentorship and innovation, culminating in an inspiring Pitch Showcase that celebrated their hard work and impact. The program highlighted how African entrepreneurs are solving community challenges with creativity and how such initiatives are helping shape a future where local innovation drives lasting change.
Empowering Change Through Local Solutions
This year’s Standout Changemakers represent a new generation of African problem-solvers who are transforming their communities from within. Their work reflects SAF’s mission to equip entrepreneurs with the skills, networks and funding they need to deliver meaningful social impact.
This year’s Standout Changemakers and SAF Seed Grant Award Winners are:
Mackline Kobusingye, Founder and Executive Director of Vital Care Connect in Uganda. Her women-led initiative provides safe, low-cost childbirth kits for mothers in rural areas, helping women give birth with dignity and safety. Beyond the kits, Mackline’s organization also runs mobile clinics that bring essential healthcare services to remote communities. A winner of the 2023 Savvy Fellowship Program, Mackline’s commitment to improving maternal and infant healthcare has made her a strong advocate for women’s empowerment in underserved regions. With a degree in Social Sciences and certification in life coaching, she also trains youth through the Social Innovation Academy (SINA), helping them build confidence and leadership skills.
Asaph Ankunda, founder of Value Crown Agro-processing Company Limited, a business that helps small farmers in Uganda earn more from their produce. By reducing post-harvest losses and cutting out middlemen, Asaph’s enterprise is creating sustainable value chains and stable rural incomes. His team uses modern agro-processing techniques to turn local crops into high-quality products for both local and international markets. Value Crown’s commitment to sustainability, innovation and eco-friendly packaging is not only reducing waste but also creating jobs and economic opportunities for farming communities. By focusing on quality and environmentally responsible practices, Asaph and his team are strengthening Uganda’s agricultural sector from the ground up.
Isa Kamuhangire, founder of Smart Fundi Solutions, a social enterprise transforming Uganda’s housing landscape. Since 2018, Isa has been tackling the twin challenges of the housing deficit and climate change through affordable, eco-friendly homes. His company offers a Rent-to-Own Housing Scheme, allowing low- and middle-income families to turn rental payments into affordable installments toward home ownership. Smart Fundi Solutions also trains youth and women in construction and renewable energy, empowering them with valuable skills while promoting green practices. The enterprise builds climate-smart homes using Interlocking Stabilized Soil Blocks (ISSB) made from waste soil and partners with institutions such as Oiko Credit International, Eco Green Microfinance, and Housing Finance Bank to make financing accessible. Isa’s mission is to create sustainable, inclusive communities while addressing climate resilience and economic inequality.
A Future Built on Purpose and Collaboration
Each of these changemakers embodies creativity and determination that define Africa’s new wave of social innovators. They are not seeking aid, they are building systems that empower others and redefine how development is achieved. Through the SAF Accelerator, they received expert guidance from facilitators and pitch panelists who helped refine their strategies and scale their ideas.
The SAF Africa Accelerator continues to show that when local innovators lead, transformation becomes self-sustaining. By combining mentorship, collaboration and funding, SAF is nurturing a generation of changemakers who are addressing real problems with practical, homegrown solutions. From maternal healthcare to agro-processing and climate-smart housing, these initiatives are proving that sustainable progress is rooted in community-driven action.
