Green Acceleration Programme Returns With Focus on Investment-Ready Women Entrepreneurs

The Green Acceleration Programme is back for its second cohort at a time when the green economy needs strong, investable businesses led by people who understand local environmental challenges. This initiative focuses on helping women founders move from good ideas and early traction to businesses that are ready to attract capital, scale responsibly and create long-term impact. Its return signals growing confidence in women-led solutions within the green economy and a clear effort to turn innovation into sustainable commercial success.

Powered by WomHub and delivered in partnership with the IYBA-SEED Project, with support from GIZ, the programme is designed to close a gap that many female founders face. Many green businesses show strong impact and demand but struggle to access funding because they are not structured for investors. The Green Acceleration Programme addresses this problem directly by focusing on finance readiness, compliance and investment preparation. In doing so, it helps ensure that promising green businesses can participate meaningfully in the economy while contributing to environmental sustainability.

Building Investor-Ready Green Enterprises

At the heart of the Green Acceleration Programme is a clear goal. It aims to move women-led businesses from high potential to high investability. The programme will select 30 entrepreneurs to take part in a structured finance readiness journey. This journey focuses on helping founders understand what investors look for, how to present their businesses clearly and how to align impact with income.

The businesses supported in this cohort work across the green economy. This includes energy solutions, circular manufacturing and climate-responsive technologies. While the sectors may differ, the founders share a common purpose. Each is responding to a real environmental challenge with a business model designed to last. These are not experimental ideas. They are operating businesses with a minimum of six months of activity that are ready for the next stage of growth.

By focusing on practical skills such as financial management, compliance and investment preparation, the programme strengthens the foundation of each business. This approach helps founders shift from early traction to real transactions. It also increases their chances of accessing the right type of capital at the right time. In the long run, this contributes to inclusive growth in the green economy and helps ensure that women-led businesses are not left behind as climate-focused investment grows.

Who the Programme Is Designed For

The Green Acceleration Programme is specifically designed for female-founded, co-led or women-managed businesses operating in the energy sector or the broader green economy. Applicants must have a registered company that has been operating for at least six months. Individual applicants must be South African citizens and be able to commit fully to the programme, which is scheduled to commence in July 2025.

Participation requires more than eligibility on paper. Founders must be willing to actively engage throughout the programme. This includes committing time, applying learnings to their businesses and preparing seriously for future investment opportunities. The programme is not a short-term intervention. It is a focused effort to prepare businesses for long-term participation in the economy.

By supporting women founders at this stage, the Green Acceleration Programme plays an important role in shaping the future of the green economy. It recognises that sustainable development depends not only on technology but also on strong businesses led by capable entrepreneurs. Through targeted support and a clear focus on finance readiness, the programme helps turn environmental intention into economic reality.

Applications for the second cohort are now open, offering women-led green businesses an opportunity to strengthen their foundations, attract capital and grow with purpose.
