EagleLion System Technology has been awarded the Mastercard Excellence in Fintech award in Ethiopia, marking a significant recognition of its role in advancing digital finance and inclusion in the country. The award was presented by Shehryar Bakht Ali, Senior Vice President and Country Manager for East Africa at Mastercard, to Bersufekad Getachew Amare, Founder and CEO of EagleLion System Technology. The recognition highlights the company’s contribution to innovation and its growing influence in shaping Ethiopia’s financial future.
This milestone comes at a time when EagleLion, through its flagship platforms Choice Microfinance Institution S.C. and StarPay Financial Services S.C., is expanding its footprint through strategic partnerships with Mastercard. These agreements are expected to play a key role in strengthening Ethiopia’s digital financial ecosystem and improving access to modern financial services.
During the ceremony held yesterday, Choice Microfinance Institution S.C., the country’s first digital microfinance institution, signed a five year strategic partnership with Mastercard. The collaboration will introduce Mastercard-enabled financial services aimed at expanding access to digital credit and inclusive banking. By leveraging technology, Choice is working to make financial services more accessible and convenient, especially for underserved communities. The partnership is expected to support individuals and small businesses by giving them better access to digital financial tools, allowing them to participate more actively in Ethiopia’s growing digital economy.
At the same time, StarPay Financial Services S.C. also entered into a reseller partnership agreement with Mastercard. Under this arrangement, StarPay will market and distribute Mastercard’s payment solutions across Ethiopia, with support from Mastercard across key areas of implementation. This will allow businesses and customers to access secure digital payment systems and cross border transaction solutions, helping to connect Ethiopia’s financial ecosystem to global networks.
The agreements were signed in the presence of senior representatives from Mastercard and EagleLion, reflecting a shared commitment to innovation and financial inclusion. The partnerships are expected to accelerate the adoption of digital payments, expand financial access and create new opportunities for businesses across the country.
Together, these developments reinforce EagleLion System Technology’s position as a key player in Ethiopia’s digital transformation. By combining innovation with strategic partnerships, the company is helping to build a more inclusive financial system that supports economic growth and empowers communities.
