Egypt-based agritech startup Croptimus has secured a strategic investment from Venture X, a development that is expected to strengthen the company’s efforts to scale sustainable farming solutions and expand into new regional and international markets. While the value of the investment has not been disclosed, the deal marks an important step for a company working at the intersection of agriculture, climate resilience and food security.
Founded in 2021, Croptimus focuses on regenerative agriculture through the production of bio-based agricultural inputs. The company converts agricultural and food waste into products that help farmers improve soil health, reduce water use and lower dependence on chemical fertilisers. The new funding will be used to scale its technology and support wider commercial deployment beyond Egypt.
The investment comes at a time when agriculture across Africa is facing growing pressure. Water scarcity, soil degradation and emissions linked to conventional farming practices continue to threaten food systems, while farmers struggle with rising input costs. Against this backdrop, solutions that improve productivity while reducing environmental impact are gaining attention from both policymakers and investors.
Turning waste into practical farm inputs
Croptimus’ approach centres on transforming underused agricultural and food waste into high-value bio-products such as biochar, activated oil and bio-oil. These products are designed for use within existing farming systems, making it easier for growers to adopt more sustainable practices without major changes to how they operate.
The company works primarily with businesses across the agricultural supply chain rather than individual consumers. Its clients include farms, agribusinesses and agricultural suppliers seeking to improve efficiency and meet sustainability requirements while protecting yields. By operating at this level, Croptimus aims to support long-term change in how food is produced, rather than offering short-term or niche solutions.
According to the company, its bio-based inputs help improve soil structure and water retention, which is especially important in regions affected by drought and declining soil quality. At the same time, the use of waste-based products helps reduce emissions across agricultural value chains, aligning with growing climate commitments in the region.
Building from early support toward scale
Croptimus’ growth has been supported by its participation in the Harvest Accelerator, a programme focused on advancing agricultural innovation and strengthening food systems. Through the accelerator, the startup tested its technology, refined its business model and engaged with key industry stakeholders.
The backing from Venture X builds on this foundation, providing both financial and strategic support as the company moves toward larger-scale production. Croptimus says its next phase will focus on increasing production capacity, strengthening partnerships across agricultural value chains and entering new markets outside Egypt.
Founder Ahmed Hassanein described the investment as a turning point for the company, noting that it reinforces Croptimus’ long-term vision of delivering solutions that combine environmental impact with clear economic value for farmers. Croptimus was co-founded by Hassanein and Abdelrahman AlAtrash, with a focus on developing applied technologies that respond to real challenges on the ground.
From an ecosystem perspective, the deal reflects growing interest from private investors in agritech solutions linked to climate adaptation, water efficiency and food security.
While sectors such as fintech have traditionally attracted the bulk of early-stage capital in the region, agriculture is increasingly viewed as a strategic area with long-term relevance. With fresh backing in place, Croptimus is now positioning itself to move beyond pilot projects and into scaled production, as demand grows for practical, locally grounded solutions that support more resilient and sustainable food systems.
